In Loving Memory ~
It's with heavy hearts be we announce the passing of Terry Thomas born in Ladysmith, known as Grumpy.
The world has lost one of the greatest as he slipped away in our arms, we love you Grumpy.
He will sadly missed and forever loved by his Anna of 43 years, children Donald Thomas (Ami), Annabel and Simon, Cindy Thomas (Alex), Tracy Thomas, Amee Duncan (James) Jason and Harmoni, Amanda Anousheh (Amir), Darius and Cyrus.
Terry's family history on Vancouver Island goes back to the horse and buggy days of some of the first settlers to homestead. Terry was a proud trade's man. He started his apprenticeship on the HMCS "Ontario" in 1956. Since then he has bent miles of pipes and was loved and respected by his fellow workers and friends. He was a loyal faithful proud UA 324 Union member and served as president for many years on committees. He was 3 years shy of being a 70-year union member.
Terry was an avid hunter and fisher, and loved the outdoors. In his years, he navigated most of the back roads, streams, rivers, lakes and mountains. You name it; he has travelled on it and has endless stories to go with them.
The City of Nanaimo and the Ministry of Transportation and Highways erected the commemorative Cairn located by the side of the Nanaimo parkway, it was built using the rocks from the original home which the family homesteaded in 1890. The parks department has constructed a walk/bicycle trail reading "The Keaist Trail".
He will be remembered and loved as Dad, TT, Papo, and Grumpy by all his friends and family, always willing and ready to help, just a phone call away.
A sincere thank you to Dr. Persson, the palliative team, the nurses who were always a phone call away and the home care. This journey could not have been taken without all of your support, the family is forever grateful.
No Service by request.
A flag is flying half-mast at the Shawnigan Lake Legion in his honour. Have a beer in his memory.
