In loving memory ~
Thomas Wesley Burton, 70, of Cobble Hill B.C., passed away from cancer on November 21st, 2022 at Cowichan District Hospital.
Always an outdoorsman, Tom spent the majority of his life in nature. He started off a fulfilling career in forestry scaling booms on the Fraser River in 1974. Over the years he saw countless remote islands, inlets and mountainsides all over the backcountry of Vancouver Island, and B.C.’s South and Central Coast. The beauty and privilege of this never escaped him.
Entrepreneurial, determined and passionate, these traits carried him through many interests in life. At times a square dance caller, competitive swimmer, pool player, SPCA fundraiser, home and cabin builder, beloved baseball coach, forestry surveyor, business owner & fisherman. Never one to take “no” for an answer, he had a remarkable ability to achieve whatever he set his mind to.
He lived a purposeful life, full of hard work, creative outlets and simple pleasures. He devoted himself to his work, his animals and his home and was happiest spending time in nature. The notion of retirement was lost on Tom as there was always another project to be completed. In recent years he enthusiastically pursued life as an egg farmer, selling his products to neighbours near and far.
Through all the hard work, Tom never lost sight of what mattered most. His lasting legacy will be the mark he has made in the hearts of his family. He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Maureen, daughter Danya and partner Josh, daughter Nadine and husband Craig, grandchildren Finlay, Sullivan, Juno, Elodie & Ainsley and siblings Laura and Chris.
We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the cancer team at a Cowichan District Hospital for their support. Tom referred to his chemotherapy days as his “spa days”, and he genuinely enjoyed the company of those who were involved in his care.
We invite you to celebrate his remarkable life by taking a moment to notice the beauty in the land around you. Tom leaves this world a better place and we are so relieved he has found peace.
A Celebration of Life to come in Victoria, B.C.
