William (Bill) John Aten of Cobble Hill, BC slipped away from us in the arms of his family on Saturday January 14, 2017 at the age of 71. Bill was struggling with Parkinson’s which he faced with dignity and courage. A deep brain aneurysm ended this struggle.
Bill was born in Salmon Arm to Bruce and Edna (Stoner) Aten. Bill married Jeanne LeTous on December 23, 1967 and they spent 49 wonderful years together. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanne and their two children Ken (Andrea) and Caroline (Afshin); his precious grandchildren Evan, Maya, Talia and Lucia; his brother Jerry of Campbell River and sisters Edwina (John) and Mary of Salmon Arm.
Graduating from high school in Salmon Arm he continued his studies at BCIT to become an Engineering Technologist. Bill’s career with the Ministry of Forests, Engineering branch took him to all parts of the province.
Bill enjoyed creating with his hands and fine mind. From planning projects to seeing them finished there was very little he could not accomplish. He was a wonderful problem solver and generous with his time. He could be counted on to help anyone who asked.
In 1982 Bill and his family started Silverside Farm in Cobble Hill, a work of love that lasted 27 years. In 2009 Bill and Jeanne retired from farming to continue their love of travelling. Bill so enjoyed a trip to South Africa in the fall with Jeanne, her sister, Barb and good friends Doug and Ellen. Bill loved the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were his passion which he indulged in at every opportunity. Working around his home gave him much joy when he couldn’t hunt or fish. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Tea will be held at the Cobble Hill Hall on Sunday, February 12th from 1-3pm. Condolences may be offered online at www.sandsduncan.ca.
Good bye my Best Friend, you will always be in my heart.
