Died peacefully on February 11, 2017 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. He joins his wife, Allana who predeceased him in 2006.

Born in Olds, Alberta in 1934 to Louis and Anna Benedek, Bill was the youngest of four siblings who have all predeceased him except for his surviving brother Joe (Josephine) of Olds, AB.

Possessed by an adventurous spirit, Bill found his true calling as a member of the RCMP. In 1955, he began his career with a five year stint in Canada’s High Arctic where he met and later married Allana Macleod, a teacher from Cape Breton, N.S. They then settled in the Vancouver Lower Mainland area where Bill was stationed with the Burnaby detachment for 10 years before his transfer to Duncan, B.C. in 1971 -1980. After retiring from the RCMP, he started his own business, Duncan Fire Extinguisher which he sold in 2007.

He will be sadly missed by his two sons (Bill Jr. and Brent), three daughters (Kristin, Megan, and Ariane), one granddaughter (Lyndsay) and two great-grandchildren (Liam and Brady), and all his friends in the Cowichan Valley and beyond.

The family would like to thank Dr. Meadows and nurses on the eighth floor at Royal Jubilee Hospital for the exemplary care given to Bill and family.

Service to be held at St. Edwards Parish, 2085 Maple Bay Road, Duncan, B.C., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017. All are cordially invited to a reception to follow.
