January 28, 1950 - January 28, 2021
Bill passed away on his 71st birthday surrounded by family. His final years were plagued with many health issues and we are grateful he's finally without pain. Bill will be remembered as a kind and gentle man.
Although he never had any of his own children, he treasured family, and loved all of all his nieces and nephews as his own and they all loved him. He was always generous with what he had and was always willing to help anyone out.
Born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, he enjoyed summers at Clear Lake. The family moved to Osoyoos, BC in 1967 where Bill completed high school. In 1968 Bill joined the Navy at 18 and was stationed out of Esquimalt on the HMCS Kootenay as an Engineer. Bill left the Navy in 1983 and lived in Mill Bay where he ran a peanut roasting business and drove taxi.
In 1997 Bill, with 2 partners, operated Cobble Hill Cabs. In 1999 he sold his interest in Cobble Hill and, with his partner Red, started Duncan Country Cabs, which he operated until 2018 when he sold his interest to his partner.
Bill would have made an excellent teacher as his passion for history would have been a bonus to any student. Bill wrote poetry and had one of his poems "The Ship" published in "Dance of the Horizon, a treasury of today's poetry" compiled by The National Library of Poetry. Bill and this poem was also mentioned in the Mill Bay Citizen article, June 15, 1994.
Bill is predeceased by his brother Robert (Kay) and sister Joan and survived by his sister Sharon (Ren) and brothers Tom (Nathalie) and Ken (Cathy), and many nieces and nephews.
He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Rest In Peace Bill.
