Bail out people, not polluters

It is time to stop giving handouts of public money to businesses that bite the hand that feeds them.

Bail out people, not polluters

In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis I believe we need to prioritize government funding for the sectors who need it most; to me a bailout of Big Oil doesn’t make sense. A handout now will not save this industry.

Rather we need investment in transitioning to a renewable energy economy, which includes investment in retraining and new energy jobs that are here to stay. Cities, towns and municipalities across Canada will need financial support to continue providing essential services to communities, taxpayer money should go to supporting communities and the people living in those communities to survive in the afterwake of the pandemic.

The failure of corporations and big business to act responsibly in cleaning up the environmental disasters they create is shameful. It is time to stop giving handouts of public money to businesses that bite the hand that feeds them.
