Burning leaves illegal

Re: Nov. 12 letter: “Practice of burning leaves should be outlawed”.

For your readers’ information: according to the B.C. Government’s “Open Burning Smoke Control Regulations” (OBSCR), “it is illegal to burn leaves unless specifically authorized, and it releases toxic chemicals in the air.” It is also illegal to burn pressure-treated or painted wood, tires, polystyrene foam, plastic, fibreglass, and a host of other materials that release particularly nasty chemicals and toxins into the air.
