Come on, allow some pot shops to open

Thank you Paul Ruszel for your thoughtful letter in the Citizen. (“Unbelievable how slow Cowichan is on pot shops”, Aug. 7)

I have been in a similar situation medically, and also have found cannabis products helpful in alleviating pain. I also wonder about the delay in bringing about so-called legalization. Maybe the transition from quasi-medical rules to government licensing still need some glitches worked out, but it’s been legal for nearly a year, folks.

NIMBYs beware: it’s a non-lethal non-opioid. Potential consumers in Cowichan currently have the choice of sending away to Kamloops, driving to Victoria or Nanaimo, or trying out the local “black market.”

Come on, local governments. At least provide some competition and allow some local pot shops to open.
