Correct usage appreciated

Re: “Cenotaph vigil honours slain soldiers”, (Citizen, Oct. 26)

Canada does not have the “Royal Canadian Armed Forces”: it has the Canadian Army, the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force which, together, constitute the Canadian Armed Forces.

A little more robust inquiry would, most likely, have revealed that Mr. Collins was a member of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, a reserve regiment located in Winnipeg. The proper abbreviation for corporal and private is Cpl. and Pte..

Admittedly, these are small issues but correct usage is very much appreciated by service personnel, both active and retired.
