CVRD irresponsible in new service creation

Re: Proposed water and housing bylaws

The CVRD proposed water and housing bylaws are like proposing a new recreation centre but not having a plan that shows us what will be in the facility: a swimming pool, ice rink or ball fields — who knows?

On top of that, the regional tax requisition for both bylaws is set at a minimum, $765K and $750K, respectively, and will increase with your property assessment. Every area will pay while we do not know which area will receive the benefit. While the province is managing a $500 million program for affordable housing and has jurisdiction over water, the CVRD board and staff want to convince us to pay for new services for which they have no delivery competency and no business plan.

The CVRD board is reckless and irresponsible in their approach for new service creation and their expectation that taxpayers will support this. Two thirds of the board have their own agenda and are not representing their electorate. Find out which ones they are and on Oct. 20 election day, vote for candidates that will stop this nonsense, vote NO to both referendums on your ballet and send the CVRD the message: “STOP IT!”
