CVRD owes us another public hearing
Let me get this straight — the 2017 and 2019 Soil Profiles were “lost” and never opened and now there is a storm water report that CVRD is demanding be kept sealed — because otherwise another public hearing would be necessary.
The previous public hearing process was completely flawed: it was held in too small a venue, despite many previous documented warnings. Democratic rights were violated as hundreds arriving on time could not get into the hearing. How does this constitute a public hearing when people have no ability to voice concerns when they are stuck out in a hall?
We should be having another public hearing anyway, even if there wasn’t new evidence that CVRD has every obligation to review in their decision making process.
So to be clear, CVRD is deciding to render Cowichan Bay and estuary heavy industrial, with absolutely no environmental information whatsoever. Is this really what we are to expect from our elected officials, decisions made fumbling around in the dark, choosing to ignore any scientific data? Is this how our CVRD directors wish to be remembered?
The time has come to open the storm water report and hold another public hearing.
