Dogs running freely are the problem

Dogs on leash with responsible owners may well be fine on trails adjacent to or through the estuary.

Re: “Dogs not disturbing the birds in the estuary”, (Citizen, Nov. 25)

Dogs on leash with responsible owners may well be fine on trails adjacent to or through the estuary.

It is when dogs are allowed to run freely into the nesting areas and habitat of waterfowl that it is a real concern.

We witnessed this disturbing action regularly at Trout Lake, while living in Vancouver, as some dog owners just don’t get it.

The noise levels in the area may indeed not be the issue for birdlife, rather it is the behaviour of both humans and dogs that puts them at risk.
