Former director supporting Mike Wilson for Area C

I have been asked by a number of residents why I am supporting Mike Wilson in the upcoming election for regional director in Cobble Hill.

In my view, Mike Wilson will represent our community in an open, honest and transparent way. He has high ethical standards and possesses the skills necessary to bring a strong voice to the CVRD table. Mike has publicly committed to hosting town hall or meet the director meetings for Cobble Hill residents and to use his professional, business, financial and budgeting expertise during all CVRD discussions. He has also committed to being accountable to the community and to responding to all communications in a manner that adheres to the highest standards expected from an elected director.

After serving for 15 years as Cobble Hill’s director and another six as its alternate director, I can tell you that local government has a direct impact on our community. The decisions made at the local level affect our quality of life in a variety of different ways. The person we send to the table to represent us for the next four years must be transparent, responsible and above all truthful in dealings at the CVRD board table and with the community.

As for the other candidates, I am not OK with a poor attendance record, wilfully damaging public property or discounting established public processes to provide taxpayer funding to others. I’m also not OK with using aliases at 5 a.m. to spread false messages. It is up to each of us to determine whether we want an honest, trustworthy representative conducting business on our behalf at the CVRD board table or whether we want to settle for something less.
