‘Freedom is the right to live safely without interference’

It is with absolute outrage that I see the Canadian flag being used as a symbol of the freedom rally/anti vaxxers protests. Until this protest I would never hesitate to raise the flag in support of my country.

Now, if you display a Canadian flag, it is likely to show support for a small percentage of Canadians that think they can bully the rest of the hard working, law abiding, tax paying citizens into allowing them to endanger our health and safety without restriction.

We do not live in a “free” country. We live in a democracy. If 80-90 per cent of the people agree on any issue, that is a mandate! You can not recklessly expose me or my family to COVID any more than I can walk down a public street and randomly punch people in the face.

We, as a society, have rules that protect us from being killed, robbed, or otherwise harmed either physically or financially by another person. Freedom is the right to live safely without interference. Anarchy is living without responsibility.

The voices of the protesters have been heard loud and clear by the country and its leaders. It’s time for them to go home and let the rest of us get on with our lives in peace.

If they won’t leave on their own, it’s time for our elected leaders to grow a backbone and send them packing.
