Furstenau misrepresents NDP hospital commitment

I was sorry to see Sonia Furstenau misrepresent the NDP’s commitment to build a new hospital.

Our community has done its part, through local government, to begin to plan for their financial share of the project, and to find a suitable site. Lori Iannidinardo sat on the Cowichan Valley Regional Hospital District Board for years, and was part of this work. Sonia may have been unaware of Lori’s role on the CVRHD before the election began, but I heard it raised in the all-candidate forum that I attended.

Lori has been working and volunteering in this community for over 25 years, and I am proud that the NDP has committed to a new hospital in this region, as part of the capital spending outlined in their fully costed plan. This commitment came about because John Horgan is listening to and working with communities, and this was clearly stated at the announcement.

Christy Clark’s government has not made replacing our 50-year old hospital a priority, and we can’t wait another four years to see if that changes.

It’s hard not to see Sonia’s deliberate mischaracterization of the announcement as anything but a statement from a cynical and self-promoting politician.
