Iannidinardo avoided all-candidates meetings

When candidates sidestep public forums and candidates meetings then our communities lose a vital connection to the public heartbeat that enriches our neighbourhoods.

Lori Lannidinardo, Area D director, CVRD, is that candidate. Hours of organization went into putting together two all candidate meetings for David Fast and Iannidinardo to present themselves to the electorate. David Fast did the honourable thing and immediately accepted both invitations to attend. Iannidinardo accepted the invitation to attend the first event and then withdrew 48 hours before the Oct. 10 scheduled meeting at Bench School.

When the second meeting was put together she declined to participate, notwithstanding that she had been given her choice of two dates this week. She argued that her schedule wouldn’t permit time. Time to spend with upwards of 200 voters for two hours, preferring to door knock, seriously?

In the case of the first event set for Oct. 10, she opted to attend a CVRD board meeting when the outcome of a vote that she claimed was so critical concerning walkways to a subdivision in the district had been determined the previous week. How she decides to spend her campaign time is up to her. No one disputes that. The disappointing truth is that she made her decisions to not attend and by so doing gave the voters a good slap across the face. How can any candidate bleat platforms that include increased community involvement and then fail to show up when the opportunities are presented? She failed this simple test. Sadly, Cowichan Bay was the loser in the end.
