Accessibility a problem at many BC Ferries terminals
Re “Hold the boat” letter of Jan. 19. We also have endured the hell described so well by Holly Warren. And it should be noted that ahe accessibility issue described in this letter exists in many of BC Ferries other terminals as well.
Locally, pedestrian access to the Vesuvius Terminal and the Brentwood Bay Terminal are particularly challenging, especially for handicapped customers. There is no provision for vehicle drop-off close to the docking area. The slope of the ramp presents a challenge even for the average person let alone seniors, the physically challenged and families with toddlers or anyone with luggage.
For us, this lack of easy access has meant that we must travel these routes in a vehicle. When we were younger we used to walk on and off these particular ferries and have friends pick us up at the top. The reverse was true when they came over to our side of the Island. Now, because of the costs we seldom get together.
My hope is that BC Ferries is addressing the problem when planning terminal upgrades. And hopefully sooner than later.
