Area H residents have already faced huge increases

I was horrified today when reading Cowichan Valley Citizen of proposed increases in property taxes. Our last year assessment went up 40 per cent and another 10 per cent this tear. Last year taxes went up 28 per cent, well over the predicted amount. Now proposed is another 12-16 per cent minimum increase and in Area H; I suspect we will also be hit with the increased recreational tax that we had little impact on the way the voting occurred. Most in Area H only use the Ladysmith facilities at best and we were already funding that.

Then to read the suggestion of an increase of $11,167 for directors, adding to their current salary of $35,000 plus expenses (32 per cent raise) is incomprehensible.

As CVRD chairperson Aaron Stone stated, “this comes at a time when businesses and residents can’t afford it”.
