Councillors against mobile home park protecting our community

Re: “Second effort to stop modular-home park fails”, (Citizen, Oct. 14)

I wish to commend councillors Douglas, Marsh and Justice on their foresight, eloquence and intelligence in standing guard over the land along the Chemainus River, the directives of the OCP and the original mandate of the Land Commission.

I am appalled by the rhetorical arguments of the representatives of the land destroyers in the name of affordable housing. It is disingenuous to support money making above all.

Douglas, Marsh and Justice did not vote against affordable housing; they voted against the location. In fact, their vote is toward remedying the root cause of homelessness. Accumulated wealth is the real crisis which, in the “real estate” world, is driving the affordable housing crisis. Accumulated wealth is the crisis of all. The insatiable hunger for money is the crisis of the Earth! Money can be an addiction.

I am appalled at the degradation and ongoing destruction of the land in North Cowichan, on this island, Saltspring Island, B.C., the Earth. And, I am deeply offended by the ridiculing and bullying tone used by those invested in the abuse of the land. It seems all of a piece.

Keep it precious,

Juanita Haddad
