Drivers also part of the problem
In regards to Mr. Senft and Ms. Young’s letter claiming we shouldnt need an overpass from Sept. 1 edition:
Perhaps the problem is not our failure as a society to teach our children how to safely cross at controlled intersections, but our failure to drive safely on our roads here in the valley.
As our community grows larger and larger, our roads (and specifically this corridor of highway) are extremely crowded and busy. Drivers are distracted by more things today than ever before. You could teach your children all day long how to cross safely at an intersection, but that does not keep them safe from unsafe drivers’ stupidity.
Teenagers sometimes make bad decisions based on their under-developed brains and rapidly changing hormone levels — but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been parented well or taught safety. It also doesn’t mean they are stupid. If we don’t use our tax dollars for the safety of our children, the future of our community, then what are we using it for?
