MacGregor on the wrong side of history

Dear Mr. MacGregor,

As one of your vaccinated constituents I would like to make a few points for your consideration:

a. Isn’t it time to remove COVID restrictions such as passports and mandates?

Canadians want their freedoms back. So many freedoms in our Canadian Charter of Rights have been broken in order to “keep us safe”.

When I look around me both vaccinated and non-vaxed friends of all ages are getting Omicron, all with minor symptoms.

b. Why are you not supporting the truckers, they are the working class that the NDP have traditionally supported.

I am vaxed but I am very sympathetic to their plight. Does it make sense to you that after two years of truckers being viewed as heroes, whether vaxed or unvaxed, safely crossing the borders to stock our shelves, Trudeau has only now instituted this health regulation, much to the fury of many truckers? Truckers have never been identified as spreaders of COVID. How can they be, when they are alone in their cabs for hours on end?

c. Mandates and passports have proved to be very divisive in our society.

It is a tragedy of epic proportions that people of all walks of life have lost their jobs, simply because they don’t want a vaccination. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms has severely been breached.

The truckers have been the spark that has set this enormous fire because underneath injustice has been smoldering. Did you watch any of the news from independent journalists on the trucker convoys? Thousands of people were cheering and waving them along as they travelled across Canada. Our truckers have inspired similar dissent in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Please take this seriously, Mr. MacGregor, you need to get on the right side of history. In the end the protestors will win because they have nothing left to lose.

d. To label the truckers as extremists is totally uncalled for, nor are they racists, anti-Semitic, white supremacists, misogynists. Your article in the Citizen was disappointing and full of misinformation. Yes, there was a small handful of troublemakers on the first day with Nazi, confederate symbols and were disrespecting memorials. However, the truckers got rid of them quickly. It’s a shame that Trudeau and the mainstream media have influenced you to parrot back such misinformation. You can’t smear the thousands of supporters because of the actions of a few idiots.

Have you visited the Ottawa protest site and talked to any of the 400 truckers?

I rather doubt it judging from your article. They have kept the city clean, cleared the sidewalks of snow and salted them, and fed the homeless. Twenty-five per cent of the truckers have children on board; these are family men who are sacrificing everything.

Trudeau won’t even meet with them. This is your opportunity, Mr. MacGregor, to support the working class that the NDP prides themselves on supporting.

M. Adam
