Opening the paper this week I was pleased to notice an all candidates meeting. We've been waiting for this. Then increasingly disappointed to read that it is a single issue meeting hosted by the DDBIA.
We all know which way they lean politically, and that's fine; that's their prerogative, but with all questions submitted in advance and vetted I think we can assume Mr. Koury is in for a pretty easy evening.
I very much hope there will be a proper all candidates meeting, open to all kinds of questions, because there are hard questions for all of them on a wide range of topics, not just the business matters which are the subject of the DDBIA's meeting.
For example, health care. I am aware that we have problems with the system currently, but in case others had not noticed, B.C. is not alone in this and for all of Mr. Rustad's certainty that he can fix it just by being elected, many of us remain to be convinced. Let's face it, hitherto proper funding of public health care has not been the Conservatives' strong suit. Mr. Koury should be given a chance to convince us on this and many other topics, as should the other two candidates.
Perhaps your newspaper might take on the task of organizing another meeting at which all kinds of issues of the day can be raised.
