New B.C. Museum should go outside Victoria
Premier Horgan unveiled his secret plan for a new museum to the astonishment of all taxpayers. Because Horgan doesn’t care that Vancouver Island extends beyond the Langford Costco, he is putting a costly museum in the City of Victoria, as if it’s the most logical place for it. He’s wrong, and here’s what his government should do:
• Build the new museum on a panoramic parcel of land in the Cowichan Valley, or the Alberni Valley.
• Partner with First Nations to design and operate a spectacular west coast indigenous experience and destination.
• Build a high speed rail line to the museum and beyond, linking Victoria, Campbell River and the west coast.
• Leave the existing museum open while the new one is being built.
• Watch all of Vancouver Island become a world class tourist destination, not just Victoria and Tofino.
Greater Victoria has more than enough tourist attractions to keep travellers engaged, without spending a billion dollars on a new museum that will increase pollution, traffic congestion, and overcrowding in downtown Victoria.
