Not enough notice of hearing
The City of Duncan has just given notice of a public hearing to be held on Sept. 6, 2022 to amend our Official Community Plan. Their week’s notice in summer holidays is an insult when something as important as this is being considered.
Of course city staff and various vested interests have had far more informal notice that this was in the works and have had ample time to prepare their submissions. In fact, some of those submissions will no doubt be professionally prepared and presented. Meanwhile, ordinary residents who even hear about the hearing in time will be left scrambling to figure out what is being proposed and then prepare a submission in response.
One can’t help thinking that this public hearing is a mere formality required by law and that the amendments are a “fait accompli”.
