Once park gone, it’s gone forever
The planner in charge of finding a location for two new six storey Duncan Manor buildings has released a plot plan of the first new building location (which was omitted from a preliminary information package).
The article mentions that she has been unable to find “affordable” land to build on — so guess what? They unbelievably intend to build on Centennial Park! She doesn’t understand our park land is costliest of all, as it is irreplaceable! Once it’s gone it’s gone forever!
The entire project seems riddled with planning incompetence. The second six storey building is to be built later on the present Manor site and is designed for underground parking.
The plan indicates that the present parking area in the park will be enlarged and shifted northward to the Second Street exit wiping out the entire much used and enjoyed greenspace. It is not known whether the giant oak trees on the east side of the park will be removed. In any case the parking lot is so close to their location that it is questionable whether they will survive the encroachment. It would be tragic to lose them!
