Protests also part of democracy
Ms. Quast seems to be forgetting democracy is about more than just elections. The ability to criticize our elected officials and hold their feet to the fire is part of democracy. Elected officials represent not only the people that elected them to office but everyone in their riding. They are responsible for representing their constituents and lobbying on their behalf. Fair to say this was not done on this issue. Given this is a working class movement, it is strange our local officials were not supportive of it.
Protests are also part of the democratic process. The fact this one is grass root and funded by everyday Canadians shows a disconnect between the government elite and the people. The PM used blatant untruths to enact the Emergency Act, (explicitly created to curtail rights). He and many other elected officials failed to do their job to listen to the people they represent and find common ground to work from.
