Referendum unfair
I totally agree with comments made by Ed Aitken. The CVRD has released the numbers for the recreation referendum. Some areas will pay more and others will pay less.
A summarized report was only mentioned to the voting public.
The figures below should have become public knowledge to all voting citizens.
Electoral area A will pay $324,876 more, Electoral area B $358,651, Electoral area C $268,417, Electoral area D $8,207,
Electoral area E $218,376, Electoral area F $397,241 less, Electoral area G $162,906 more, Electoral area H $109,745 more,
Electoral area I $367,627 less, City of Duncan, $279,982 less, Town of Lake Cowichan, $264,274 more,
Town of Ladysmith, $43,469 more, and the Municipality of North Cowichan, $714,071 less.
For example if your taxes go up by $300, the raise will be paid over three years and if your taxes goes down, also will be paid over three years. The referendum will give discounts to electoral F, I, City of Duncan, and Municipality of North Cowichan.
The ironic thing here is that the heavily populated areas will now pay less when the referendum stated that all areas would be charged by the amount of usage. Example: City of Duncan will have more usage than Electoral area A, yet Electoral A will have to pay more.
