Speaker disputes characterization of his presentation

As a local homeowner and longtime member of the North Cowichan community, it was my privilege to recently provide the district council with a contextual presentation on the status of the forest industry.

I notice that Larry Pynn has written to object to me being one of the many voices about forestry that the district has heard from. I am more than qualified to represent a broad range of forest-related views, which I discuss in my weekly podcast and radio show on Radio NL, ForestWorks.

Back when I was one of his supervising editors at The Vancouver Sun, Larry was a reporter we always looked to go out and get the facts. I don’t know what has changed with him, but in his letter to you, Larry falsely states that I did not present specifically about the 5,000-hectare municipal forest reserve. In fact, the record shows that I did provide options for thinking expansively about win-win outcomes for local forestry. Realistic opportunities exist for well-paying local jobs, First Nations reconciliation, wildfire fuel management, and keeping the industrial tax base healthy resulting in affordable property taxes for all.

Larry’s frantic attempts to limit the discussion through a personal attack tells us all we need to know about the integrity of his perspective.
