What about electrical capacity for electric cars?
Yes I know I have harped before about the lack of a national or provincial policy or strategy around vehicle electrification and subsequent charging demand load placed on the existing electrical grid and generating capacity.
One of my concerns is that we have become complacent about the generating capacity being unlimited because we can just add another $7 billion dam on the Peace River. This might be the answer if there is no climate change, but as we see there is climate change and it can affect rainfall anywhere on the planet.
Just look at what is going on south of the boarder with regard to Lake Powell’s drastically low levels and the federal government’s deadline to seven states to reduce water draw from the lake. This situation could beset Canada at any time, thus reducing potential electrical generating capacity.
In the U.S. the number one solution to water conservation is to limit food production because it is the majority water user, while people can continue to live in insane places like Las Vegas where there never would have been a city if not for the Colorado River and Lake Powell.
No point to mass electrification of vehicles if the generating capacity is subsidized by burning fossil fuels. Who is steering the ship?
