Winter woes and poor service

Having lived in New York and Montreal during the winter it seems we have a different idea out here about harsh conditions.

Our roads have been clear now for a while and in our area never got too bad. Garbage pickup has been delayed until next collection day so there will be four weeks of garbage and recycle to deal with. We were told to just put all the extra bags off to the side. This will slow down the next collection considerably. An extra pickup day I guess was out of the question.

Our paper delivery (Times Colonist) was put on hold for a week even though the paper delivery guy got to within 50 yards of our place and rather than walk it to our driveway decided to turn around and call it quits for the week.

I think they would be laughing at us out east as to how easily we give up on our routine services. My taxes increased over $500 last year. I can’t expect an increase in service but I do expect a little effort to maintain the status quo.
