Train thrown under the bus!

It would appear that the train is being thrown under the bus. As of March 28, 2022 there are now seven round bus trips between Duncan and Nanaimo five days a week and six round trips on Saturday. One way fare of $7.50 per trip (Route 70 NCX Nanaimo-Cowichan Express). Monthly passes will also be available.

This price compares to $20 one-way fare from Shawnigan Lake to Victoria for a ride on the proposed slower train. Bus stops will include downtown Nanaimo South Parkway Plaza, Nanaimo Airport, 1st Ave at Highway 1 in Ladysmith, Drinkwater Road at Cowichan Commons, Beverly at Duncan Street near Vancouver Island University, Duncan Train Station and Village Green Mall in Duncan.

Meanwhile the disused train tracks have been gaining traction amongst communities to convert the track bed to a multi purpose motor-less trail like the Okanagan Rail Trail or closer to us, the Galloping Goose. Check out the latest on this idea at Fortvi.ca.
