Market staff should use their judgment on enforcement of rules

Attention Duncan Saturday Market organizers:

On July 4 I visited the market, following the procedure of lining up and practising social distancing without a problem and it went very smoothly.

At the entrance I did see two 30-something women ignore the lineup sign and saunter in, ignoring the call to please go to the end of the line. This is just ignorance and the public has learned to just accept people like this.

On the other hand, it was when I was exiting near the corner of Ingram and Jubilee that I spoke up. I noticed a senior lady (like myself), walking very carefully with her cane, about to enter when a bylaw officer stopped her and explained she would have to walk all the way around behind the City Hall to the entrance. This does entail several blocks so I said “could you not make an exception and let this senior lady with a cane enter here?” He shrugged his shoulders and said “No” as the lady very dejectedly walked away.

Perhaps the market staff could use their judgment sometimes.
