Mike Wilson stands high above in Cobble Hill race

As campaign season closes, it is clear to us that one candidate stands high above in the three-candidate race. Mike Wilson has our vote, not just because of disturbing actions by the other two candidates, but because he best represents what we value in our community.

First of all, Mike values Cobble Hill and South Cowichan enough to actually get out there and work for it. Seeing him involved with the Area Planning Commission, Friendly Phones, Rotary, Sally Ann Christmas Kettle, Farmers’ Institute and most recently the charity book sale at Bonner School shows us that he is a guy who will always give more than he gets.

Mike has run a clean campaign. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the other candidates who have either used profanity in communications with the public or whose computer IP address is alleged as the source of posts berating Mike made in a variety of different names.

Mike believes ageism is a last century concept which divides communities. He believes Matteus Clement’s attitude about an impending generational divide is itself causing divisions in Cobble Hill by fostering stereotypes based on age. Mike wishes to support all Cobble Hill residents and will work with anyone on initiatives that benefit our community.

Mike is an excellent communicator who promptly responds to questions and concerns. He has worked hard to reach every resident through his pamphlet mail out, website, meetings (neighbourhood, community, CVRD and business), and two weeks of door-knocking.

Mike is committed to fiscal responsibility and accountability. As a business owner, he is well aware of the need to question whether expenses are needs or wants and how beneficial they will be. Clement raised the Cobble Hill portion of our taxes in 2017 by 11 per cent and has continued to pour tens of thousands of dollars into one organization through grants-in-aid without public input or accountability. This means a small discretionary fund has now morphed into an unofficial regional grant fund, but without any of the standard requirements.

We want to live in a united Cobble Hill with a director who is respectful, responsive, honest and fiscally prudent, and who believes that we, as a community, should be in charge of our own destiny. That is why we are supporting Mike Wilson.
