Natural gas good for the environment
I would like to thank our local MLA Sonia Furstenau for allowing the lowering of CO2 emissions. Granted her motive was self-serving in order to keep her paycheque, and not driven by her green principles. She was unwilling to make LNG Canada development in northern B.C an issue with the NDP government as it would lead to an early election. She clearly knows she is unlikely to keep her seat.
Natural gas emits half the CO2 of coal. That would be over a seven billion metric ton reduction in CO2 alone not to mention all the particulates and radioactive dust from the atmosphere. (Yes coal plants release more radioactive particles than nuclear power.) For perspective, all of Canada produced 568 million metric tons of CO2 in 2018. You would think this would be a major plank in a party about lowering GHG. It makes you wonder what the Greens are really about.
You may remember the protests in solidarity with the few Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs that opposed their own democratically elected council’s decision to allow the natural gas pipeline. The green movement seized on this opportunity for political theatre, blocking entrance into the legislature.
Clearly the speech at the protest was just hollow platitudes. That is no surprise if anyone can get through the disingenuous overtones, but then all their speeches are vaguely feel-good meaningless platitudes. Why do voters keep electing such people?
One buzz word used ad nauseum is “just”. “A just world.” They use it as it can be given any meaning by the audience members. Perpetrators of the most heinous crimes feel their actions were just or justified.
The Malthusian book Silent Spring was a foundational part of the green movement. From the unabomber to the Christchurch shooter, overpopulation and the premise of humanity as a virus on the planet has been used as justification for murder. We now appear to have a political ideology/religion with such dark premise, and those spouting green rhetoric are right in the middle of it.
