No board of directors meant community policing group had to fold
Re: “Why no public appeal before community policing shut down?”, (Citizen, Dec. 17)
At its AGM April 2020, the existing board of directors [of Cowichan Community Policing] did not stand for renewel of their board membership, and as no other citizen came forward to request or be nominated for a position on the board of directors it was clear that with no active board of directors the Society would cease to be responsible for community policing.
As result and per the Society’s Act and bylaws of the CPAC Society, the board decision was voted on and unanimously determined for dissolution of the Society and distribution of assets per the bylaws. However before any dissolution decision was made the board of directors held transition discussions with the South Cowichan Community Policing administration which would ensure a proper and legal succession of community policing services. In this way the community policing and safety needs of the citizens of North Cowichan and Duncan would continue to be fulfilled.
