No need or wish for miniature Disneyland in parks

The children, the adults, the elderly, users of the park, do not wish for or need a miniature Disneyland. The natural park is what draws them in each day.
The runners and walkers enjoy the park environment for their exercise, free from traffic and the city.
Dog owners love the trails, and safe open areas. A place to socialize with others. Those walking or in wheelchairs enjoy the park environment, a welcome change from suburbia and apartments.
A large proportion of the park is already given over to two large enclosed sports fields. No further encroachment of parkland is warranted for further tennis coursts, ping pong, camping, covered barbecues, zoos and the other planners’ ambitious ideas.
The City of Duncan’s limited acreage is not suited to such grand development. In the greater Cowichan Valley there are better suited opportunities for development of a multi-use park, should there be deemed a true need.
The plan suggests expropriation of neighbouring lands. Surely such expropriation should be reserved for housing.
Concerned citizens, taxpayers, park users and lovers of our local park ask that the park be left as it is.
We, the writers, live directly next to the park and river, and see the frequent usage.
