Not feeling safe in the community
I agree that there needs to be management of the addiction crisis, but I think there are a few concerns that are not being confronted.
How is giving an addict safe, free drugs supposed to help them kick their habit? You don’t help someone trying to quit smoking by giving them free packs of cigarettes. You don’t help an obese person lose weight by giving them a bucket of free ice cream. While an addict may be sincere in their desire to get clean, the pressure from the ever present drug dealers must be very difficult to resist. Until the almost omnipresent drug dealers are removed from harrassing the addicts there is never going to be a positive outcome.
I enjoy walking in and around our beautiful valley, but not always with a sense of security. While most of the disadvantaged people are quiet and keep to themselves, some are unpredictable, unstable and somewhat confrontational. I worked hard, I paid my taxes and obeyed the law, so why am I the one to feel unsafe walking the streets that my tax dollars paid for?
