Opposed to equity policy discrimination

I too have supported the B.C. New Democratic Party for 40 years and I had every intention of attending the nominating meeting

This letter is in support of the opinions printed in today’s [Jan. 25] paper, written by Larry Woodruff, Perry Foster and Matt McGonigle, and the earlier opinion of David Lowther on the matter.

I too have supported the B.C. New Democratic Party for 40 years and I had every intention of attending the nominating meeting — that is, until I read in your paper that Ian Morrison and other qualified candidates were not even allowed to seek the nomination, simply because they are able bodied white males. I guess I should have been aware of the equity policy, but I was not. I was appalled that something so non-equitable could be called equitable. Thank you very much, but I have always made, and shall continue to make, my own decisions in politics and in life.

As a consequence, I did not attend the nomination meeting and although I will have to vote for the nominee in order to help the party defeat the non-liberal Liberal Party, I will remain opposed to the discrimination evident in this policy.
