Pay attention to motorcycles on the road

It is that time of year again and there are more motorcycles on the road than ever. Only this month people are dying.

It is that time of year again and there are more motorcycles on the road than ever. Only this month people are dying.

In light of the lack of awareness that is usually brought to our attention this time of year I am putting out an appeal to all drivers. It is May and we are out there riding. I have almost been hit twice and I am a very safe rider and I have been riding too many years to mention. Many motorcyclists have been hit and some did not make it.

This is very serious; many of you do not look when changing lanes or give a cursory look. Yes, we are hard to see but especially if you are not looking. Telling the police you did not see us does not bring us back to life. For those of you that take extra caution when you see us and go out of your way to make room, thank you very much.

We are small and accelerate faster than a car so when you look over your shoulder take a second look and make sure you see everything. The reason there is usually more attention to May and motorcyclists is because drivers are not used to us being on the road. Well, we are out there and we would rather keep the shiny side up but we can only do that if you take extra caution and make room for us.
