Portables a legacy of NDP government

B.C. NDP education critic Rob Fleming is blowing off steam on the number of portables being used in school districts.

B.C. NDP education critic Rob Fleming is blowing off steam on the number of portables being used in school districts.

If he would have done his research on the topic he would have found the following quote from former NDP education minister Paul Ramsay, dated June 10, 1999 on the CBC news.

Ramsay, said, “The portables have been used to accommodate a bulging population of new students. Total enrolment in schools across the province surged by 23 per cent in the last 10 years. A $900 million school construction program is beginning to catch up, but there are still more than 3,000 portables in use, and although the numbers are declining, portables will remain a familiar site in school yards for the foreseeable future.”
