I was amused by the comment of Coun. Jackson that “If Colorado is any indication, taxes from these operations in Canada could be in the tens of millions of dollars.”
Actually, a new report from CIBC World Markets says “Canada’s federal and provincial governments could reap as much as $5 billion annually in tax revenues from the sale of legal marijuana.” That seems a reasonable estimate based on the fact that the government collects in excess of $10 billion per year from revenue on liquor sales and $8 billion from cigarettes.
