Proposed Cobble Hill tax for park worrisome

I am very concerned about the additional taxation of $100 per household proposed by Cobble Hill Area Director Matteus Clement.

I am very concerned about the additional taxation of $100 per household proposed by Cobble Hill Area Director Matteus Clement.

There were some meetings, held not in Cobble Hill, but in Mill Bay. Where or when was it ever conveyed to Cobble Hill residents that the outcome would be an additional $100 taxation?

Why did I have to learn about this in a news article after the CVRD budget was approved? The CVRD website indicates 4,796 Cobble Hill residents.

I live in Arbutus Ridge where we have about 1,100 voting residents, making up almost 25 per cent of the total population. How well were these meetings publicized?

How many residents attended these meetings? How many from Arbutus Ridge? What about the families with children who have to watch every dollar they spend?

Whatever happened to using the green space for something that Cobble Hill does not have, and that is an assisted living or extended care facility?

Presently that space is very rarely used — maybe a few days a year.

Even if it is re-grassed and has some picnic tables installed, or a bandshell, it still won’t be used on a regular basis.

There is lots of room for the annual Cobble Hill Fair without using an area which could be put to better use to keep our seniors close by and employment in the community. We have plenty of good parks and, quite frankly, we are surrounded by green space.
