Protesting is not ‘extremism’

Mr. MacGregor says, “I will not sit idly by while misinformation and disinformation…undermine our public health efforts.” Ironically, his article constitutes misinformation and disinformation about the Ottawa protest!

Mr. MacGregor speaks of support for the protest as “being used to promote extremism, white supremacy, antisemitism, and other forms of hate”. From the outset, media have focused on the rare incidents which might discredit a legitimate protest. I am sorry to see our MP take the same tack.

The call to stop vaccine mandates at this point does not “subject to abuse” our health care workers, nor is it extremism. When protesters feel that government is genuinely listening, they are more likely to end the protest. Dismissing and even mocking the protesters is the irresponsible stance of our Prime Minister, whose taunting may well lead to an unnecessarily long protest and the violence which so far has been rare.
