Repave Government Street

Dear Duncan mayor and councillors:

I realize city council and public works has many priorities but please consider a new one to repave the atrociously decayed blacktop, in both directions, on Government Street between the rail tracks beside the cenotaph, westward to just beyond the Sherwood House care facility.

I also appreciate this gnarly stretch may be partly the responsibility of other governments including Cowichan Tribes and the province.

Still, this crumbling roadway has numerous dangerous and annoyingly deep potholes and patches that have really gotten worse during the years.

These pesky potholes could be considered unintentional speed bumps I guess, but that’s cold comfort to my car’s shock absorbers.

Various lighted intersection pieces at and near the rail crossing at Government and Canada Avenue and Duncan Street arguably mark our nation’s worst intersection for various reasons, but council inherited that boondoggle — or I assume council would be fixing that too.

Anyway, repaving that nasty length of road along part of Canada Avenue would be wonderful, appreciated by the myriad of motorists living in and visiting Duncan.

Peter W. Rusland,

Duncan
