Replace NATO with European armed forces

NATO was created after WWII to keep the Russians out, the Germans down and keep the U.S. in Europe. The U.S. controls NATO and has a great influence over European politics and the European economy. The U.S. is using its influence to transform NATO from a defensive alliance to a military appendage of the U.S. empire against Russia and expanding NATO’s use by the U.S. outside of Europe such as the Middle East and Venezuela.

Russia is no longer an offensive military threat to Europe. Russia has no intentions of invading Europe. Thus, if NATO were disbanded, the resulting more equal regional power of Russia, an independent Europe, China and the U.S. could establish greater geopolitical global stability.

The current military focus would tend to shift from defence/offence to establishing political and economic stability. The resulting “peace dividend” could be used by all nations to focus on trade and economic development. This, coupled with technological advances could result in a new global economic renewal.

It is suggested that consideration be given to formally disbanding NATO and replacing it with a European Armed Forces under European command and control.
