Sign destruction down to justified fear

In response to the writer perturbed at how to explain to his son the mowing-down of the blue signs, perhaps a bit borrowed from Tommy Douglas could help the son understand Canadian (and world!) politics.

“There are White Cats and Black Cats who run the country. At election time we MICE rush out and elect the WHITE Cats who make all kinds of promises but once in power make life harrowing for us and eat us, so, next time around, we rush out and vote in the BLACK Cats who do the same or worse. We never seem to realize that voting for (big, fat, corporate) CATS of whatever colour is not a sensible option for we peasant MICE.”

The blue of the Tory party represents a long history of preying on the credulous peasantry. The not-so-distant regime of [Stephen] Harper, and the spectre of predation under Andrew Scheer and his fascist-leaning WorldCorp confrères are truly frightening. Finally, people are waking up to the realities of life under the CATS and some among us have become so angry, and so scared of what a Tory victory would bring, they have resorted to destroying these blue symbols of oppression — the only “fight” they can conceive.

They are fully justified in their fear; that they are justified in their actions I leave to others to judge.
