Signs of spring in Duncan: roaring Harleys

Some signs of spring in Duncan: April showers, May flowers, gaggles of Chinese tourists, and the dullards who ride Harley Davidson motorcycles, dragging their cones of noise behind them, audible for half a kilometre on each side.

An estimated 60-70 per cent of Harley owners throw away the stock pipes and install aftermarket (i.e., noisy) pipes. I won’t comment about what this says about their mental state, lack of self-esteem, and the pathetic need to be noticed. Let us put one fiction beloved of owners of noisy motorcycles to rest: No, loud pipes do NOT save lives. If this were true, riders of quiet machines like Gold Wings, BMWs, etc., would appear amongst the largest percentile of motorcycle accidents, Harleys amongst the smallest. Statistics (i.e., those troublesome things, actual facts) don’t bear this out.

Does Duncan have no noise bylaws?
