We must unite to fight climate change

This morning I was thinking back almost 50 years to a symposium my school organized at UVic in response to the growing concerns over pollution. For most of the day I listened to the experts and the audience describe issues and possible responses. Towards day end I made an observation. I noted that every blue sky idea was met with one constant impediment. The cost.

Fifty years later the issues are now extreme and the forces of change that we have wrought through neglect are about to overwhelm the planet. Biggest impediment — skyrocketing costs.

The nations of the world need to unite, the billionaires of the world need to join in the fight and contribute substantially, and we all need to contribute as best we can to a universal plan to save humanity from the affects of climate change.

Yes it will cost a bundle. But penny-pinching may wipe us out. It is time to forget about balanced budgets and get on with the job as a matter of absolute urgency.

Come on Duncan, B.C., Canada, North America, all citizens of our shared planet. It is now or never.
