Wilberforce argument better directed to Jackson
It is unfortunate that some people grossly distort our words, then proceed to lash out from their point of perception. Once again this is what our friend Mr. Rock has done.
All I can suggest is for him to please go back and re-read my letter. As he will see I have merely pointed out that William Wilberforce was a conservative and an evangelical Christian, highlighting to Ms. Jackson that the references she chose to use contradict her previous points. In fact, Mr. Rock’s angst about Wilberforce may be better served directed toward Jackson’s letter. Wilberforce was not a source put forward by me. Surely one need not be angry about that.
I was not aware that I had been “dealt with” as is suggested by Mr. Rock. How very interesting. This is not a term one would normally use when referring to civil dialogue in constructive discourse. But it really does not matter, the argument is already lost by the one who resorts to anger and disrespect.
There are many more things I could say here but choose not to because I think it wise to stay on point about what my original and subsequent letters are about; that political “socialism” and “having a social conscience” are two different things. One is political structure while the other is a human trait. If some are angry about that, it is their prerogative. They are entitled to their opinion. After all, so far, we still live in a free country.
