You need to be part of the air quality solution

Re: Woodsmoke issues

I’m tired of reading letters from people who tell us all about their clean burning, energy-efficient wood stoves that don’t pollute the neighbourhood. How are you helping to improve the air?

Maybe you’d like to move to my neighbourhood, where I can see at least five houses that spew thick, dirty smoke all day. Smoke that changes colour according to the rotten wood and garbage they are burning. Some days I can’t see the end of the block for smoke. If I walk my dog I start coughing (and so does she).

Is there anybody monitoring the air I’m breathing? No. Is there anybody inspecting their old inefficient stoves? No. Is there any law that forces them to use a stove like yours or keep their fuel as clean as yours? No.

So honestly what are you doing to help? Good on you for not being part of the problem. But please get off your butts and start insisting on better laws and better enforcement, or you are also not part of the solution. Thanks.
